Glossary

A reference guide to the terminology used across Edge Network products, documentation and community discussions.

A

Access Code — a scoped credential (ea_live_...) issued to AI agents for authenticated access to the Edge Agent API. Can be restricted by product, permission and budget.

Agent API — a purpose-built API for AI coding agents to deploy, manage and scale infrastructure on Edge. Supports composite deployments, dry runs and idempotent operations.

Anycast — a network routing method where the same IP address is announced from multiple locations. DNS queries and CDN requests are automatically routed to the nearest point of presence, reducing latency.

API Key — a credential (ek_live_...) for programmatic access to Edge services. Created and managed from the control panel.

B

Bridge — the mechanism for transferring $EDGE between the Edge Blockchain and the Ethereum network. Bridging is 1:1 — one $EDGE in equals one $EDGE out.

Bucket — a container for objects in Edge Storage. Buckets can be public or private and are accessed via the S3-compatible API or the control panel.

Burn — the permanent removal of $EDGE from circulation by sending tokens to a zero address. A percentage of network revenues is burned regularly.

C

CDN (Content Delivery Network) — a distributed network of servers that caches and delivers content from locations close to end users. Edge CDN includes image transformation, real-time optimisation and end-to-end TLS.

Compute — Edge's virtual machine product. On-demand Linux VMs with full root access, flexible resource sizing and startup scripts.

Control Panel — the web interface at edge.network/account for managing all Edge products, billing, teams and settings.

D

DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation) — the governance structure of the Edge Network. The Edge DAO oversees proposals, voting and the direction of the project.

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) — an attack that floods a target with traffic to make it unavailable. Edge has built-in DDoS mitigation across its global network.

DNS (Domain Name System) — the system that translates domain names to IP addresses. Edge DNS is an authoritative DNS service with sub-second propagation and a worldwide anycast network.

Dry Run — a mode in the Agent API where a request is validated and simulated without making any changes. Triggered with the X-Dry-Run: true header.

E

$EDGE — the native token of the Edge Network. Used for service purchases, staking, governance and node rewards. Also available as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum.

Edge Blockchain — the layer 1 blockchain at the heart of the Edge Network. Records device usage, value attribution and governance activity.

Edge Computing — a computing paradigm that processes data close to where it's created and consumed, rather than in distant centralised data centres. Reduces latency and bandwidth usage.

ed.ge — a premium short domain product. Subdomains of ed.ge (e.g. yourname.ed.ge) are available at $5/month.

Egress — data transferred out of a cloud platform to the internet. Edge charges zero egress fees on all plans.

ERC-20 — a token standard on the Ethereum blockchain. $EDGE is available as an ERC-20 token, bridged 1:1 with the native $EDGE on the Edge Blockchain.

G

Gateway — a node type in the Edge Network that manages traffic routing between hosts, stargates and end users.

Geo-Routing — directing traffic based on the geographic location of the user. Used in Edge DNS and CDN to serve content from the nearest location.

Governance — the process by which the Edge community makes decisions about the project. Requires a governance stake and is conducted through proposals and votes on the governance platform.

Governance Stake — $EDGE locked in the network to participate in governance. Locked for a minimum of 12 months. Grants the ability to create and vote on proposals.

Growth Fund — a pool of $EDGE set aside for marketing, exchange listings, community rewards and third-party project funding. Directed through project governance.

H

Host — a node type in the Edge Network that contributes compute, storage or bandwidth capacity. Hosts are operated by community members and businesses.

I

Idempotency — the property of an API request that produces the same result regardless of how many times it's called. The Agent API supports idempotency via the Idempotency-Key header.

M

Mainnet — the production network where real transactions and deployments take place, as opposed to a test network.

N

Node — a device contributing capacity to the Edge Network. There are several node types: hosts, gateways and stargates.

NVMe — a high-speed storage interface used across Edge Compute and Storage. Significantly faster than traditional SSD or HDD storage.

P

Point of Presence (PoP) — a physical location where Edge infrastructure is deployed. Edge has over 2,000 points of presence worldwide.

Proof of Stake (PoS) — a consensus mechanism where network participants lock tokens as a stake to validate transactions and secure the network. Edge uses PoS for node operation.

Propagation — the time it takes for DNS changes to be reflected across the network. Edge DNS propagates changes in under 60 seconds.

Proposal — a formal suggestion submitted through the Edge governance platform for community consideration and voting.

Q

Quorum — the minimum level of participation required for a governance vote to be valid. Set at 5% of total voting power.

S

S3-Compatible — conforming to the Amazon S3 API standard. Edge Storage is S3-compatible, meaning it works with the AWS CLI, SDKs and tools like Cyberduck and rclone.

Security Group — a set of firewall rules applied to one or more Compute VMs. Controls inbound and outbound traffic.

Stake — $EDGE locked in the network, either for node operation (proof of stake) or governance participation.

Stargate — a core node type in the Edge Network that coordinates communication between gateways and manages top-level routing.

Startup Script — a script that runs automatically when a Compute VM boots for the first time. Can be selected from a pre-built library or written as a custom script.

Storage — Edge's S3-compatible object storage product for files, media, backups and application data.

T

test.network — a developer-focused short domain product. Subdomains of test.network (e.g. yourname.test.network) are available at $1/month.

TLS (Transport Layer Security) — a cryptographic protocol for secure communication. Edge enforces TLS 1.3 across all endpoints.

TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) — the standard used for Edge's two-factor authentication. Compatible with Google Authenticator, Authy and similar apps.

Trial — a 30-day period with full access to all Edge products for a one-off $2.50 fee.

V

VM (Virtual Machine) — an on-demand Linux server provisioned through Edge Compute. Fully isolated with dedicated resources.

vCPU — a virtual CPU allocated to a Compute VM. Plans range from 2 vCPUs (Dev) to 48+ vCPUs (Business/Enterprise).

Z

Zero Address — a blockchain address with no private key, used as a burn destination. Tokens sent to the zero address are permanently removed from circulation.

Zone — a DNS zone representing a domain and its records. Managed from the DNS section of the control panel.
